Programme Development

Launching or refreshing a programme carries risk and costs. Insightful data can help to minimise these risks by giving an early “Go / No Go” decision, providing recommendations on direction, and by adding to the knowledge of the key academic staff who will be responsible for a programme’s development.

UniViz’s Programme Development analysis can be used wherever in-depth, programme-specific data and insight is needed; new programme development, revalidation, or during a refresh to improve recruitment.

Methodology

Programme title searches of HESA’s Student Record data drives Programme Development analysis. Learn more about how this data is cleaned, categorised and analysed on the Data page.

We will work with you to ensure that all competitive and similar programmes are included. Above all, a student point of view is used to consider what other titles they could apply for.

With this data, analysis considers the benchmarked position of the programme and how this can be improved, taking into account programme titles, institution types, tariff, tuition fees, student demographics and more. Realistic target numbers will be given for new programme concepts.

The UniViz Cloud provides an interactive set of dashboards, allowing you to dive deeper into the data that has been used to provide insight and recommendations, and this will be available to use during your programme revalidation or development.

Where specific insights could be useful for the programme being considered, add-on analysis could include:

  • Modules
  • Accreditations
  • Academic Engagement

A comparison of the target programme’s modules (or proposed modules) to those offered by competitors and market leaders to identify whether there is the opportunity to improve modules and add new content.

Determination of the accreditations held by competitors and market leaders, and whether these correlate with higher student numbers. Where multiple accreditations exist in one market, we will help to prioritise the most important for recruitment.

Discussion with the programme leader and/or marketing/recruitment staff (attendees to be nominated by the client) to learn the recent history of the programme, current recruitment processes etc and to hear of planned changes. Information gathered here may focus the analysis in relevant directions, and can contribute to the conclusions and recommendations made.
